Description

This tanzanite trillion abstract pendant looks almost like a sailboat on tropical blue-violet waters. With the most gorgeous intense hues of color. Tanzanite is one of December’s birthstones. So, it’s the perfect gift for Christmas or birthday, now at 50% off!

Such a charming pendant with its stylized sailboat look. We love this artsy design executed meticulously in high polish 14K yellow gold so the sun glints off the “sails”. Next, three small perfectly placed bezel set diamonds create a little sparkle. Diamond total weight is .05 ct.

However, we most especially love this pendant for the fabulous tanzanite that’s the main attraction, weighing almost 2-1/2 ct. (2.40 ct.). The gem’s excellent trillion cut brings forth its pleochroic colors to its fullest effect. In this case you’ll see mostly vivid violets and blues.

Chain not included.

About Tanzanite

Only found in Tanzania, this rare stone was discovered only fifty years ago. As Tiffany & Co.’s pride and joy, they introduced tanzanite to the world, “the loveliest blue gemstone discovered in over 2,000 years”. Certainly, one if its most impressive qualities is its strong pleochroism, meaning many-colored. Consequently, you see different colors within the gem from different viewing angles. And, tanzanites are typically one of the more spectacular examples of pleochroism.

From BBC News, June 2020, “Tanzanite is one of the rarest gemstones on Earth, and one local geologist estimates its supply may be entirely depleted within the next 20 years.” Recently, an independent African miner found and sold the largest tanzanites ever discovered. One weighing 9.2kg, the other 5.8kg, awarding him $3.4 million. That’s a combined weight of 15kg or 33 lbs.!! Up to now, the largest ever found was 3.3kg. He says he will build a school and a shopping center for his community. President Magufuli says, “This is the benefit of small-scale miners and this proves that Tanzania is rich.”
