An Opal Abstract Butterfly pendant custom designed and made by Chris Copeland. A stunning modern statement piece. So much fun to wear! Because Mother Nature is such a creative artist she never likes to make the same opal twice. So, lively, vivid opals assure you of a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art.
Obviously, the vibrant opal colors make this a striking necklace. Beautiful worn against the skin or atop a solid color fabric.
This butterfly’s center opal is a good sized boulder opal weighing over 5-1/2 carats (5.58 ct.). Boulder opals still sit in some of their original ironstone host rock. Because of this, they have extra strength and stability over a regular opal. In addition, this dark, ironstone backing adds to the depth of color coming from the gems. Considered a premium opal, Boulder opal is found in only 2 or 3 places in the world.
Next, we have those gorgeous blue opal wings. Like a beautiful ocean blue or the deep blue sky just before dark. These wings are ready to take flight. Composed of four opal doublets. Doublets are made with a strong backing adhered to the opal for strength. An added plus, the dark backing enhances the gem’s natural colors.
This abstract design is skillfully created in 14K yellow gold. Masterfully constructing the gold antennae, each set with a small opal. Opals are notoriously hard to work with. So, each one is carefully and perfectly set. Also, note how the gold ends protect each opal. The butterfly’s dimensions are approximately 2-1/8″ high including the antennae and 2-1/4″ wide.
