The Company

Innovative, iconic and known for American Spirit and Swiss Precision. Most significantly, becoming  the official wristwatch supplier for the American Armed Forces in the early 1900s. Every American soldier depended on a Hamilton watch in both World Wars and every military operation since. Hamilton watches must achieve the highest performance standards. In addition, they’ve earned a well deserved reputation for innovation. For example, most recently they created the first ever drift angle calculator to appear in a watch. Helping pilots accurately calculate how crosswinds will affect their journey. In the 1950s, their striking Ventura became the world’s first battery-operated wristwatch. Then, in the ’70s, they came out with the original digital watch.  The brand boasts a strong military heritage in the Army, Air Force & Navy. And finally, their watches have appeared in over 500 major movies! They are legit!

Today their watches include the Khaki Field, Khaki Aviation, Khaki Navy, Ventura and Jazzmaster collections.

The Watch

One of Hamilton’s most widely produced and worn watches, the Khaki Field was the original soldier’s watch. Rugged, uncompromising and functional, it was designed to meet the needs of military personnel but also became a firm favorite among Hamilton fans and collectors. The new Khaki Field Mechanical is a faithful re-creation of its original 1940s watch and is true to Hamilton’s military heritage.

The Details:

A great all-around watch! Housed in a 38mm stainless steel case, big enough to easily see and not too big to get in your way while working. Triangular indexes and hands are detailed with “Old Radium” colored Super-LumiNova®. These luminous vintage looking tanned pigments really standout on the black dial. Each numeral is a full millimeter high, allowing the Super-LumiNova® to absorb light from all sides and guaranteeing its long-lasting luminescence. In addition, new Super-LumiNova technology glows up to ten times brighter and twice the length of a standard glow. Therefore, making it much easier to read, especially in the dark.

Completing the look is a durable dark gray NATO strap for the watchband.

And, saving the best for last, the special movement. Specifically developed for their hand-winding/mechanical watches, their exclusive H-50 caliber is classic Hamilton when it comes to producing dependable soldiers’ watches. And, this model ensures that they’re staying true to their military roots. Its incredible extended power reserve lasts up to 80 hours. This means, you’re assured of maximum reliability, even when it’s not wound for a few days.

Its History

The original Hamilton Khaki collection was developed in the 1940s for military personnel. They are a symbol of Hamilton’s commitment to providing accurate timepieces for the military. Originally known as the ‘hack’ watch for its stop second function when the crown’s released, was a perfect way for the military to synchronize watches. A function destined to become standard feature on all watches. As part of the war effort, Hamilton discontinued selling watches to the public during World War II to be sure every soldier was provided with this essential piece of field equipment.

There is nothing superfluous in this new watch, a robust stainless steel case and yet a light hand-winding movement and NATO strap. Surely, an essential piece of equipment out in the field today as well. Going back to their roots, Hamilton creates an authentic watch for modern life with nothing that’s not absolutely necessary. Military style and functionality is in Hamilton’s DNA and their prestigious history. So, for about 80 years now, they continue to produce the popular Khaki Field watches in different sizes and with various functions. Today’s new Khaki Field Mechanical represents a steadfast re-production of the original model in its simple, rugged glory.
