Covellite is noted as being highly iridescent. First found at Mt. Vesuvius in Italy in the early 1800s, Covellite is a rare semiprecious gem material. Today, Italy and the U.S. are two of only seven places on the planet to find high quality Covellite.
Striking in its metallic iridescence, its blue brilliance is head-turning. Typical of covellite, this luminous blue oval is studded with bright, brassy-gold pyrite. Incidentally, these gems are very soft and so quite difficult to cut into nice cabochons like this one. So, you want to wear these stones as a pendant or earrings. They’re way too soft for a ring.
Therefore, Copeland skillfully crafted a 14K yellow gold bezel protecting this rare gem and complementing the golden pyrite. In addition, minimalistic design lines really make this dramatic stone stand out.
Next, four small blue sapphires harmonize beautifully with the Covellite. All set in 14K white gold, with two round sapphires at the bottom with a marquis between them and one round at the top to complete the design.
