Abstract Carnelian Lapis Pendant

An Abstract Carnelian Lapis pendant in sterling silver. Meticulously hand-crafted by Chris Copeland in a timeless abstract design.

This carnelian is a gorgeous hue of deep brick red color. In addition, an oval lapis harmonizes perfectly with the deep red of the carnelian. These strong deep colors look beautiful together. Next, little star sapphires add nice highlights to the overall design. As you can see from the photo it’s a little bit smaller than a penny. Overall the pendant is a little over 2 inches.

For added depth to the design, a textured finish is carefully applied by hand to the flat silver pieces while a high polish surface surrounds each stone. The piece is nicely reinforced on the back for extra strength where you’ll also find the sterling silver and artist’s hallmarks.

History & Lore

History tells us that since ancient times people have worn carnelian as talismans in areas like Babylon and Greece. Long considered to be one of the luckiest stones on the planet by many cultures. Carnelian is believed to bring its owner peace and happiness. Mohammed was known to wear a ring with a carnelian stone seal. Later, Napoleon Bonaparte always wore a carnelian stone seal as a watch charm that he brought back from an Egyptian campaign. Carnelian ranks 7 on the Mohs Hardness scale which is relatively hard.  Carnelian is ideal for carving cameos because of its hardness and the color zoning within the stone. Therefore, carnelian has been the favored material for centuries for making cameos.
