When you make the life-changing choice to ask your sweetheart to marry you, it’ll be the first in a very long line of decisions that need to be made. There are a ton of decisions that go into planning a wedding, of course, but there are also a whole bunch of decisions that go into choosing the perfect engagement ring, whether or not you pick out the ring secretly before the proposal or you and your new fiance(e) pick it out together after the proposal (more on that in the next post!). The friendly, knowledgeable staff at Copeland Jewelers is always ready to guide you through the many variables of choosing a ring and help ensure that your Austin engagement is an unforgettably wonderful memory!
One important consideration when choosing an engagement ring is whether you’re looking for a fresh, modern design or something that’s a bit of a throwback. Modern engagement ring trends run a gamut, of course, from truly minimalist designs to elaborate shoulders and shanks that feature fine filigree work or pave diamonds, but even with the diversity of styles that are popular today, someday in the future someone will examine your ring and be able to tell that it was definitely made in the early part of the twenty-first century. Each decade of the past hundred years or so has favored its own trends in engagement ring design, and some brides and grooms today prefer older styles, such as the large solitaire diamond of the 1990s, the fabulous floral motifs that were popular in the 1940s, or the Art Deco-inspired geometric shapes composed of tiny diamonds during the 1920s.
You’ll also need to decide what stone(s) to include in your engagement ring. Traditionally, engagement rings featured one or more white diamonds, but colored stones have become increasingly popular in recent years. Perhaps you and your fiance(e) would like to bridge the gap, employing a combination of white diamonds and colorful stones such as rubies or sapphires, or perhaps you’d like to buck tradition altogether and choose something unique, such as a yellowy-gold citrine, a lime green peridot, or even an opaque stone such as turquoise. There are other considerations that should go into stone type as well, such as choosing moissanite instead of white diamonds or colored diamonds instead of rubies, emeralds, or other stones. These substitutions might be made for lower prices, environmental concerns, or other personal reasons.
Copeland Jewelers carries a multitude of rings in many different styles, and you may find your perfect choice within our existing stock. But if you don’t, remember that we’re always thrilled to create beautiful custom jewelry ATX. A custom design can be achieved for any of the considerations listed above, but some couples have another reason for choosing the custom option: Many people choose to use one or more stones from a family heirloom and have them re-set for a more modern appearance, or simply for a more secure hold on the stone. Or perhaps there was a family treasure that you or your partner had always hoped to use as an engagement ring, but over the years it got lost or was stolen. If you can provide photos or a description of the original ring, our skilled bench jewelers can recreate the design to fulfill your engagement ring dream.
An engagement ring is a physical symbol of a beautiful promise, something to be adored and treasured for decades to come. Copeland Jewelers would be honored to help your family get started with a beautiful piece of jewelry that means the world to you.
